CURRENT POST ~ Working Through a Logo Design Project: The Process
Now that school is completed for the summer, I am able to focus on some personal projects that I’ve had to put off. School has been consuming most of my non-working hours (I’m currently working on a master’s degree). While I love school and am learning tons, not only about business, marketing, and advertising, but also about myself, I hate the fact that it eats up so much of my time. There are several projects that I’ve had to hold off on starting while in school. So, I decided not to take any courses over the summer so that I can focus on those projects. Plus, I just needed a break!
The first project that I am taking on is a blog project. While I am not ready to release any details, mainly because I am just in the early stages of developing my plan, I wanted to write a post about the process I am following as I design the logo and identity for this project. I have a few options, but am having a difficult time selecting one design to push forward. I thought I needed to take a break and focus on what goes into creating and selecting a logo.
My Logo Design Process
Since this project is a personal project, I am just going to illustrate the rough process I am following for this specific project. Client projects would involve a few more steps such as creating a creative brief with the client, review stages, and so on. I am just focusing on the bare bones creative inspiration, brainstorming and design stages I have been working through.
As stated above, this is just the rough process I am following for the project I am working on at the moment. While the steps are listed in a linear fashion in the list above, the process is by no means linear in reality. I go back and fourth through the stages several times. It’s definitely been a slow progression. I have two designs that I would like to push into final form before making my final decision. However, I may try to come up with one more solid design. In order to do that, I’ll go back to the research and brainstorming stage.
Logo Design Resources and Inspiration
There are a lot of great logo design resource websites out there. Here is just a small list of a few I’ve been turning to lately.
What Am I Missing?
What logo design resources am I missing? If any of you know of any other good logo design resources, please post them in the comments. What is the process that you follow when working on a new logo design project? I am always interested in finding new resources and learning from others!
I love browsing logo websites to find new and creative logos. When I get a designer to design it, i will send them a link to 5 of these as inspiration for them.
@Tom – It’s a habit of mine to browse logo galleries as well as other graphic and website design galleries. I love to see what other designers/artists are doing and am inspired by a lot of what I see.
Thanks for the comment!
